the land i love
my father, ever the up and coming politician (kinda, he would have been a great politician but then he realized he had a soul), and myself, ever the "sure dad, but what about this? what do you think there?", as always, talked a little about the wayward ways of the world this morning. a little about marissa's "Inflation or Unemployment" question (to which, m, he responded "inflation is a much bigger problem. declaring unemployment the greater would be like putting a bandaid on cancer", tell your sister; party: registered republican, but only so he can vote primaries); a little about hilary (as always, whom he hates) and a little about my wanting to learn Chinese (to which he responded "That's an excellent idea, Rachel. You never hear anything about China. In thirty years, you'll definately want to be able to communicate with the nation with a billion man army."); a little about 2008 election. my father is already excited about it. really excited. i wouldn't be surprised if he's printing up bumper stickers in his "shop" already. i told him the republicans haven't a chance, they'd have to have something good and great to counter hilary. he said they did. i said what. he said Condoleezza Rice. good point, daddyio. good point. totally hadn't even thought about teh prezzy's lap woman. but black and female? do you think that maybe it's too great of a stride? this country isn't accostomed to large change at once. and two women running against eachother? this is going to be, well, interesting, to say the least. but it does eliminate the problem of simply voting for the woman because she's a woman, as elaine declared she would do, which was followed by her brother declaring that that was the reason women were denied the vote for so long (which my dad sort of agrees with; he called my kind fickle and superficial- claiming we vote for the good lookin one). whatever. as long as a napolean type doesn't take over and France us (meaning take away women's right to vote, as he did) for a few decades. or, you know, like a hundred years.
